Giants hold sixth training-camp practice as pads become a focus

摘要

The New York Giants held their sixth practice of training camp on Tuesday, emphasizing padded drills and addressing penalties after a penalty-laden Monday session.

The New York Giants took the field for their sixth training-camp practice on Tuesday afternoon in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Head coach John Harbaugh described the second week as "the big week of camp," noting that padded drills will be more frequent than at any other point in the preseason.

Veteran defensive tackle D.J. Reader, in his 11th camp, said the team must "callous the body" to withstand the physical demands of the season. He emphasized intentional preparation to handle the hits players will face.

Penalties were a concern after Monday’s session, where the team incurred at least a dozen infractions. Harbaugh acknowledged the issue, and veteran offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor said the coaching staff would call out mistakes publicly, urging players to improve.

The offense has shown some progress but has yet to dominate a practice, partly due to strong defensive play and the typical early-season advantage for defenses. Coaches hope Tuesday’s session will yield clearer offensive success.

At the end of Monday’s practice, defensive players performed push-ups as a penalty consequence, prompting Harbaugh to criticize their form. He was urged to demonstrate proper technique, to which he responded briefly before leaving the podium.
