LIV Golf holds players-only meeting at Trump Bedminster amid uncertainty over league's future
LIV Golf executives and players met at Trump National Bedminster to discuss the league's outlook after the Saudi Public Investment Fund announced it will cease funding after 2026.
LIV Golf players and executives convened at Trump National Bedminster on Tuesday for a private meeting as the league faces uncertainty about its financing and schedule. Bryson DeChambeau led the discussion, according to a report from The Athletic.
The gathering followed a separate session that included CEO Scott O'Neil and other league officials, though few details were disclosed.
"Bryson just ran through what he knows, and obviously, we're trying to do it as a group, but we're individuals as well, so I think the next two to three weeks is going to be where it's at," said player Richard Bland. "We're in this together; we're fully backing Scott. I think probably in the next two to three weeks we'll have a bigger picture."
The status of the upcoming team championship in Michigan remains unsettled, with no announcement expected this week. Player Cameron Smith said he has been instructed to prepare as if the event will proceed, but uncertainty persists.
The league's financial outlook grew bleak after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund announced it will stop backing LIV Golf after the 2026 season, despite having invested more than $5 billion to date. LIV Golf is reportedly seeking up to $250 million in new investment and is operating on loans for the remainder of the 2026 campaign. The organization has warned employees of possible large-scale layoffs and has explored a potential U.S. bankruptcy filing.
Recent legal challenges, including a lawsuit alleging the league’s concept was stolen, and the Asian Tour’s decision to end its partnership with LIV Golf, have added to the pressure. With three tournaments left in the 2026 season, starting with an event in New Jersey, the league’s future beyond next year remains uncertain.
