Seven juveniles injured in Montgomery County crash involving stolen car

Résumé

A crash in Germantown, Maryland, killed a 27-year-old driver and injured seven teenagers who were riding in a stolen Kia, according to police.

Police said a two-vehicle collision on Clopper Road and Great Seneca Highway around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday resulted in one fatality and eight injuries. The driver of a blue Toyota Matrix, the only occupant of that vehicle, died at the scene. Seven passengers, aged 12 to 15, were inside a white Kia Optima that police later identified as stolen.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue crews extinguished a small fire in the Kia and rescued the occupants. The juvenile behind the wheel was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition, while the other six teens were transported to trauma centers for treatment.

"The white vehicle had juveniles in the vehicle. They were between the ages of 12 and 15, none of them were licensed at the age of 15. No one is of age to be driving a vehicle," Montgomery County Police spokeswoman Shiera Goff told 7News.

Investigators are reconstructing the crash, and the intersection remains closed for several hours while evidence is gathered.
