Day Six of Lindsay Clancy Murder Trial Features Expert Testimony

Résumé

The trial of Lindsay Clancy entered its sixth day with police, medical and psychiatric experts testifying, while the defendant has agreed to stipulate to certain factual statements.

The sixth day of the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy began with additional testimony from police investigators, medical experts and psychiatrists. The defendant, a mother from Duxbury, Massachusetts, has agreed to stipulate to several facts that the judge will incorporate into the record.

Prosecutors allege that Clancy strangled her three children — Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months old — on Jan. 24, 2023, after sending her then-husband, Patrick, out on errands. They say she then attempted suicide by jumping from a second-story window, resulting in paralysis from the waist down.

The defense argues that Clancy was experiencing postpartum psychosis at the time of the incident. If convicted of murder, she faces life imprisonment without parole; a verdict of not guilty by reason of mental illness would lead to commitment to a state mental health facility.

"The evidence shows the defendant was suffering from a severe mental health condition at the time of the incident," a spokesperson for the defense team said.

The court will continue to hear expert testimony in the coming days.
