UFC flyweight Allan Nascimento dies at 34 from apparent heart attack
UFC confirmed that 34-year-old Brazilian fighter Allan Nascimento died in his sleep from an apparent heart attack, prompting condolences from fellow athletes and officials.
Allan Nascimento, a 34-year-old Brazilian flyweight who competed in the UFC since 2011, was found unresponsive in his sleep on Monday and was pronounced dead at the scene, the organization said. The UFC stated that medical personnel responded but could not revive him. Nascimento compiled a 22-7 record in his UFC career, with his most recent bout ending in a split-decision loss to Mitch Raposo on June 20 in Las Vegas.
Fellow fighters expressed sorrow. Charles Oliveira, the No. 3-ranked lightweight, said, "Today I lost a brother — a guy who was truly one of a kind — and the pain is unbearable." Caio "The Natural" Borralho posted that Nascimento was "polite, good energy and always in good spirits" and would be missed. UFC correspondent Evelyn Rodrigues described him as "one of the kindest souls I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing through MMA. Rest in peace, Allan."
