Cal Fire orders evacuations as Gann Fire expands to 2,100 acres in Calaveras County

摘要

The Gann Fire near New Hogan Lake has burned 2,100 acres, prompting evacuation orders for four zones and an advisory for a fifth, while shelters are set up for residents and animals.

Cal Fire reported that the Gann Fire, which ignited near Hogan Dam Road and Gann Road around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, has spread to roughly 2,100 acres and is moving uphill through grass and brush. Evacuation orders were issued for zones CCU-147, CCU-139, CCU-110 and CCU-109, with an advisory for zone CCU-130.

Residents in the ordered zones are required to leave the area immediately, while those in the advisory zone should follow local guidance. The Red Cross is operating an evacuation shelter at the Jenny Lind Memorial District in Valley Springs, providing water, meals and emotional support. The Calaveras County Sheriff's Office directed displaced livestock to the county fairgrounds in Angels Camp and opened an animal shelter at 300 W Daphne Street in Valley Springs.

"All schools will remain open and operate on a regular schedule," the Calaveras Unified School District said, adding that outdoor activities may be moved indoors as a precaution.

Fire crews responded to a dozer rollover that injured a firefighter, who was taken to a hospital for evaluation. A separate incident involved a pickup truck colliding head-on with a fire engine, causing significant vehicle damage; California Highway Patrol officers cleared the road to allow fire suppression efforts to continue.

Authorities advise evacuees to bring essential items such as medication, clothing, hygiene supplies, important documents and supplies for children and pets.
