Man charged with murder in Chino Hills kidnapping and shooting
A 66-year-old passenger was charged with murder in the killing of business associate Shukur Aikebaer after a kidnapping and shootout in Chino Hills, California.
A 66-year-old man, identified as Jianquan Bo, was charged with murder on Monday in connection with the kidnapping and fatal shooting of Shukur Aikebaer in Chino Hills, California. Bo was a passenger in the vehicle driven by his 67-year-old brother, Zhengfeng Bo, who was killed by deputies after opening fire on Aikebaer.
San Bernardino County District Attorney Jason Anderson explained that the charge is based on the felony-murder doctrine, stating that prosecutors allege Bo knew the plan to kidnap and kill the victim and participated in the events leading to Aikebaer’s death. Bo remains in custody without bail and is scheduled for arraignment on Tuesday.
Authorities say the incident began when Aikebaer left his home on Monteverde Drive to investigate a power outage. He was shot, placed in the trunk of the suspects’ Nissan Altima, and later found dead after deputies intervened. The shooting followed a brief pursuit after Zhengfeng Bo failed to stop for a traffic stop.
Investigators are examining whether the power outage was deliberately caused to lure Aikebaer outside. A special circumstance allegation of kidnapping was also filed, which could allow prosecutors to seek the death penalty.
Business records show that Zhengfeng Bo and Aikebaer were partners in at least two limited-liability companies involved in ongoing litigation, including a dispute over a $20 million Pasadena apartment complex. Bo’s attorney described Aikebaer as a “middleman” who introduced his client to the other party in the dispute.
