Guardians acquire outfielder Jo Adell from Angels
Cleveland trades for Jo Adell, sending catcher Will Cozart to Los Angeles, adding power to the lineup while retaining control through the 2025 season.
Cleveland completed a trade with Los Angeles that sends catcher Will Cozart to the Angels in exchange for outfielder Jo Adell. The 27-year-old has posted a .239/.287/.395 slash line with 16 home runs and 62 RBIs in 111 games this season and is under team control for one additional year. The move gives the Guardians a power bat in the middle of the order as they already have catcher Patrick Bailey on the major-league roster, reducing the need for another defensive-first catcher.
Adell, who has struggled with a hitless streak in recent games, recorded a 103.6-mph home run earlier in the season, his third hardest-hit ball of the year. The trade is viewed as a low-risk acquisition that could bolster Cleveland’s offensive production.
"Adding Jo Adell provides us with a left-handed power threat and flexibility in the lineup," a Guardians spokesperson said.
