Cleveland Guardians inquire about Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett
The Guardians have contacted the Miami Marlins regarding the possible acquisition of left-handed pitcher Braxton Garrett, who is currently in Triple-A and under contract through 2026.
Cleveland has reached out to Miami about the availability of left-handed pitcher Braxton Garrett, according to a report by Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. The Marlins are reportedly open to offers on Garrett, who has spent most of the 2024 season with their Triple-A affiliate in Jacksonville.
Garrett, 28, was the seventh overall pick in the 2016 draft and posted a 3.63 ERA over 247 2/3 innings for Miami in 2022-23. He missed most of the 2024 season and all of 2025 after undergoing surgery for a UCL tear, but is now healthy. He has appeared in two major-league games this year, both in May, allowing seven runs and eight walks over 4 1/3 innings. In Triple-A he holds a 2.90 ERA in 77 2/3 innings, with a 26.4% strikeout rate and a 9.2% walk rate.
Garrett remains under team control for two more arbitration years and is projected to earn $1.525 million in 2026. This season is his final minor-league option year, meaning any acquiring club would need to keep him on the 2027 major-league roster or designate him for assignment.
Jackson notes that the Marlins have kept Garrett in Triple-A for most of the season, citing the team's desire for him to make adjustments that he was reluctant to adopt. The report suggests Miami may not receive a substantial return but could benefit from moving him while he still has value for a team seeking controllable pitching depth.
