Patriots hold indoor practice focusing on run game, rookie pass rusher sees increased reps

Resumen

New England held its eighth training session indoors due to rain, activating RB Terrell Jennings and noting increased participation from rookie pass rusher Gabe Jacas.

The New England Patriots resumed practice on Monday after a day off, moving indoors because of rain but keeping pads on for red-zone drills that emphasized the running game. Rookie pass rusher Gabe Jacas, who debuted on Saturday, saw his participation rise, taking several full-team reps and a one-on-one matchup in which he beat depth tackle Lorenz Metz.

Running back Terrell Jennings was activated from the non-football injury list and contributed on special teams as a kick returner in his first summer practice. Wide receiver Kyle Williams, who arrived late after a Saturday injury, was limited, while new injury absences included offensive guard Caedan Wallace.

Wide receivers Mack Hollins and Efton Chism III were active, with Hollins catching five passes from quarterback Tommy DeVito, three of them touchdowns, and Chism recording three receptions, also including a touchdown. A.J. Brown suffered a dislocated thumb during a one-on-one drill but remained in practice after receiving a brace.

On defense, cornerback Charles Woods continued as the primary option opposite Christian Gonzalez, delivering a notable pass breakup at the goal line. Undrafted free agent Channing Canada earned a first-team rep after a pass breakup on Hollins, and rookie Karon Prunty forced an incompletion and nearly intercepted a pass.

The offensive line saw several one-on-one contests. Rookie tackle Caleb Lomu split his six reps but was beaten inside by Quintayvious Hutchins and Bradyn Swinson. Hutchins also defeated Marcus Bryant, while rookie offensive tackle Dametrious Crownover used his length to overcome Elijah Ponder and Swinson.
