Tigers Confirmed Trade of Tarik Skubal to Dodgers After Final Call
Detroit officials called Los Angeles on the deadline night to finalize the trade of pitcher Tarik Skubal, sending outfielder Zyhir Hope and two minor-league pitchers to Detroit in exchange.
Detroit Tigers officials phoned the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night to confirm a trade for left-handed pitcher Tarik Skubal. According to reports, the call came as Dodgers executives were concluding their deadline-day meetings in Los Angeles. The two clubs reached an agreement during the Dodgers’ game against the Boston Red Sox, with the Tigers receiving outfielder Zyhir Hope and right-handed pitchers River Ryan and Brady Smith in return.
The Tigers reportedly focused on the Dodgers because they believed the team could offer the most aggressive deal, while other interested clubs such as the Tampa Bay Rays and Milwaukee Brewers were described as less likely to act decisively before the deadline. Additional teams, including the Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves and the Brewers, were said to have shown varying levels of interest, but none presented an offer the Tigers preferred.
Dodgers general manager Andrew Friedman and manager Dave Roberts addressed media questions about the acquisition, emphasizing confidence in the organization’s depth and stating that the trade was a strategic use of the roster’s strengths. Roberts said the team felt good about the move and highlighted the quality of the Dodgers’ farm system.
The transaction adds Skubal to a Dodgers roster already considered strong, while Detroit gains a mix of major-league and minor-league talent to bolster its own rebuilding efforts.
