Patriots training camp sees several players rise and fall on depth chart after first week
After seven practices, New England’s first-round tight ends Eli Raridon and Tanner Arkin moved up, while players such as cornerback Kobee Minor and guard Caedan Wallace slipped on the depth chart.
New England Patriots coaches adjusted the depth chart following the first week of training camp, with seven practices completed. Tight end Eli Raridon, a 6-foot-6 player who ran a 4.62-second 40-yard dash, advanced to the second-string spot behind starter Hunter Henry. Fellow tight end Tanner Arkin, a 6-foot-4, 262-pound blocker, also moved up, positioning himself as the next option for blocking duties.
Wide receiver Kayshon Boutte began camp with several deep receptions and continued to see targets, while A.J. Brown, after a slower start, recorded four catches in consecutive sessions and demonstrated a strong connection with quarterback Drake Maye. Defensive back Dell Pettus earned a third-safety role in nickel packages and intercepted Maye during Saturday’s practice.
Conversely, cornerback Kobee Minor, a former practice-squad player, saw reduced playing time after a series of big-play concessions. Third-round pick Caedan Wallace, shifted from tackle to guard, fell to third-team reps behind Andrew Rupcich and Mehki Butler. Running back Lan Larison, initially projected as the third-string back, lost ground after a fumble and competition from Jam Miller and Myles Montgomery. Wide receiver Kyle Williams received limited reps, primarily with second-string units, and guard/center Ben Brown struggled in one-on-one drills, putting his backup status at risk.
Honorable mentions included cornerback Karon Prunty, wide receiver Cameron Dorner, offensive lineman Andrew Rupcich, and linebacker Khalil Jacobs, each showing potential for roster spots.
