Idaho bystander hailed hero after confronting shooter

Resumen

A 35-year-old healthcare worker identified as Jordan Salinas is being praised for confronting a gunman who killed three people at an In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho, while police say an off-duty officer also fired at the suspect.

A shooting at an In-N-Out Burger restaurant in Twin Falls, Idaho, left at least three dead and seven injured on Saturday afternoon. The gunman, identified as 24-year-old Chad Williams, was found dead nearby after police said he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Twin Falls police chief Matthew Hicks said an off-duty officer and a civilian who fired at the suspect helped drive him away from the crowd, preventing further casualties. > "We believe their actions helped drive the suspect away from the scene, preventing further casualties," Hicks said at a news conference.

The civilian, later identified as Jordan Salinas, a 35-year-old healthcare worker from Kimberly, told the Idaho Statesman he confronted the shooter after hearing gunfire. Salinas said he had been training with firearms since a 2021 mall shooting and followed a practiced four-step approach – observe, orient, decide, act – before firing at Williams.

Salinas described the incident as a “mechanical” response and said he felt no fear while engaging the attacker. He later posted on social media thanking supporters and promising to provide a fuller account when possible.

Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the attack. The FBI has asked the public to share any video or images of the incident, and police warned against misinformation, noting that an unrelated individual had been falsely identified online as the shooter.
