Giants remain inactive as MLB trade deadline approaches

Résumé

With less than a day left before the 2026 trade deadline, the San Francisco Giants have made no roster moves, while other clubs completed modest deals.

The San Francisco Giants left San Diego on Sunday without any trade activity, despite the MLB trade deadline less than 24 hours away. The team made only routine roster adjustments, including suspending payment to outfielder Harrison Bader, promoting infielder Nate Furman, claiming first baseman Buddy Kennedy off waivers, and releasing three players to the Padres.

Other clubs were active: the New York Mets traded veteran pitcher Freddy Peralta to Tampa Bay for three prospects, and the Yankees sent four pitchers to Washington for left-hander Luis Garcia. Both deals were relatively modest in scale.

Giants pitchers Robbie Ray and outfielder Luis Arraez, who were still with the club on Sunday, are expected to be moved before the 3 p.m. PT deadline on Monday. Ray indicated he was already considering his options, while Arraez said a trade would not change his approach to playing.

"If San Francisco trades me, I'll go do my job," Arraez said.

The organization faces decisions on its bullpen, where several relievers have attracted interest, and on potential roster openings for younger pitchers and offseason acquisitions. Injured right-hander Randy Rodríguez is progressing in rehab, and José Buttó is nearing a return.

Manager Tony Vitello praised Arraez after the loss to the Padres, noting his positive impact on teammates and staff.

"He just makes everybody's day better," Vitello said.

The Giants are expected to finalize any moves before their next game on Monday in Arlington.
