Trump Media launches paid service offering early access to presidential posts for investors
Trump Media & Technology Group introduced a $100,000-a-month service that gives subscribers faster alerts on Truth Social posts that could affect financial markets, prompting calls from Democrats for an investigation.
Trump Media & Technology Group announced a new subscription service, Truth API, that provides investors and Wall Street firms with real-time alerts on Truth Social posts deemed capable of moving markets. The service costs $100,000 per month and promises subscribers access to posts at the same moment they become public, but with a fraction-of-a-second advantage.
The platform’s most followed account, belonging to President Donald Trump, has historically been used to announce policy decisions that influence market activity. Analysts note that even brief delays can be valuable in high-frequency trading environments.
Renée Jones, a Boston College professor and former senior SEC official, told NPR the service could raise legal concerns, stating, "If the president’s posts on Truth Social are translated into financial gain, and certain people receive special access to them, that is improperly obtained information. By giving people early access to his posts, he is also violating his fiduciary duty."
Senators Elizabeth Warren and Adam Schiff sent a letter to the SEC requesting a probe into whether the service breaches U.S. law, describing it as an "outrageous exploitation of presidential power for personal gain."
A spokesperson for Trump Media dismissed the criticism as politically motivated, claiming the accusations are false and part of a coordinated effort to harm the company. The number of subscribers to the service has not been disclosed.
