Giants evaluate first four days of training camp at West Virginia facility

Resumen

The New York Giants completed four days of training camp at the Greenbrier Sports Performance Center, noting positive performances from several players and logistical challenges with the venue.

The New York Giants spent the first four days of their training camp at the Greenbrier Sports Performance Center in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, before taking their first off day. Coaches highlighted several players who have stood out in practice. Defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux has been used both on the edge and as an interior pass rusher, making impact plays against starters and backups. Second-year edge defender Abdul Carter has also been productive, despite limited blocking from offensive linemen who are not yet in pads. Veteran wide receiver and return specialist Braxton Berrios has consistently recorded catches, while slot receiver Calvin Austin has shown an ability to get open downfield. Inside linebackers Arvell Reese and Tremaine Edmunds have contributed with interceptions and pass deflections during the early sessions.

The practice schedule has emphasized a fast pace, with special-teams and individual work followed by 11-on-11 or 7-on-7 drills without walk-through breaks. Players are rotated quickly to maintain intensity. Wide receiver Darius Slayton said, "Practice has been at a great pace, but I feel like, again, we’ve done such a good job of mixing and matching guys that it allows for people to be able to play fast and play hard. Ultimately, you stack more explosive reps. You don’t get into as many of those, six or seven, eight reps in a row, the reality is by the time you get seven, eight reps in, you’re fried. I definitely think that’s been great."

The place-kicking competition between Dominic Zvada and Ben Sauls has been closely monitored, with both kickers making attempts from beyond 55 yards. Observers noted that Zvada appears to have a slight edge, though both are considered capable of NFL play.

The facility presents some logistical issues. The turf field is located on a steep slope and is not readily accessible, leading the team to rely on the two grass fields. Additionally, the complex lacks an indoor practice bubble, and forecasted rain could force the Giants to conduct outdoor sessions in wet conditions. Restrictions on social-media posting during practice limit real-time updates for fans and may delay reporting of injuries or other developments.
