Dodgers acquire Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal from Tigers for prospects
Los Angeles added back-to-back Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal in a trade that sent three minor-league pitchers, including prospect Zyhir Hope, to Detroit.
Los Angeles completed a deadline trade for right-hander Tarik Skubal, the back-to-back Cy Young Award winner, sending three minor-league pitchers to Detroit. The package included Double-A outfield prospect Zyhir Hope, right-hander River Ryan and right-hander Brady Smith. The move adds Skubal to a rotation that already features World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto, two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell, and All-Star Justin Wrobleski, among other arms.
Dodgers’ front office described the acquisition as part of a broader strategy that leverages both free-agency spending and prospect assets. Andrew Friedman, the club’s president of baseball operations, said the team “has no acute need” at the deadline but remains “open to exploring anything and everything.”
Detroit, which is within striking distance of a wild-card berth, receives prospects who could contribute in the coming seasons. Hope is viewed as a potential major-league outfielder, while Ryan, currently on the injured list, may add depth to the Tigers’ pitching staff.
Analysts noted that the trade underscores the Dodgers’ financial flexibility and their willingness to use prospect capital to acquire established talent, a pattern the club has followed in recent years.
