Actor Vincent Pastore, known for his role on "The Sopranos," dies at 80

Vincent Pastore, 80, died at his Bronx home on Saturday, his manager Robert Attermann confirmed. The cause of death was not disclosed.

Pastore was best known for playing Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero, Tony Soprano’s confidant and later FBI informant, in the HBO series that ran from 1999 to 2007. The role made him a recognizable figure in television and cemented his reputation as a staple of mob-related dramas.

Born in the Bronx and raised in New Rochelle, Pastore served in the U.S. Navy before attending Pace University. He entered acting after working in nightclubs and befriended actors Matt and Kevin Dillon. Early credits included a part in Nancy Savoca’s comedy "True Love," an extra role in Martin Scorsese’s "Goodfellas," and appearances on "Law & Order." He also performed on stage and in films such as "Once Upon a Time in Brooklyn."

Beyond acting, Pastore taught at HB Studio, co-founded Renegade Theater NYC with Maureen Van Zandt, and fronted the band Gangster Squad, which played a mix of R&B, rock, funk, soul and reggae. He briefly appeared on "Dancing With the Stars" in 2007.

Attermann, who represented Pastore for more than three decades, said, "> Vinny was one of the kindest, most generous people I have ever known. He treated everyone with warmth and respect, never turning down a fan who wanted a photograph or an autograph. I will miss his friendship, loyalty, humor and generosity. May his memory be a blessing."

The Bronx Walk of Fame, which inducted Pastore in 2016, noted that his portrayal added depth and authenticity to the series, contributing to its lasting impact on television history.
