Giants suspend Harrison Bader's salary pending accident investigation

Resumen

San Francisco Giants have suspended outfielder Harrison Bader's pay while reviewing the circumstances of a late-night scooter crash that will keep him out for the remainder of the season.

San Francisco Giants announced on Friday that outfielder Harrison Bader will not receive his salary until he is cleared to return to the team, as the club investigates a scooter accident that occurred early Sunday morning. Bader, who signed a two-year, $20.5 million contract in the offseason, had already been sidelined since late May with plantar fasciitis in his left foot. The crash, which involved his scooter striking the rear of a San Francisco Fire Department truck and the wheel rolling over his foot, is expected to end his 2026 season.

"Over the weekend, Harrison Bader was involved in an accident that has delayed Harrison's prior treatment timeline for plantar fasciitis and, unfortunately, his return to the field," said Buster Posey, the Giants' president of baseball operations. "We are still investigating the circumstances of the accident but will be suspending payment to Harrison until he is able to resume performing services for the Club."

The incident is not Bader's first scooter-related mishap; a 2014 episode while he was with the Florida team resulted in a 19-game suspension. Bader, a Gold Glove center fielder in his tenth major-league season, has played for several clubs, including the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets, Minnesota Twins, Philadelphia Phillies and the Giants. In 39 games this season with San Francisco, he posted a .170 batting average with five home runs.
