Apple Launches New Upgrade Leasing Program and Releases iOS 26.6

Summary

Apple introduced the Apple Upgrade leasing service in the United States, replacing its previous upgrade program, and rolled out iOS 26.6 and iPadOS 26.6 with security patches and preparations for iOS 27.

Apple announced a new leasing service called Apple Upgrade for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch in the United States, partnering with Klarna. The program offers 12- to 36-month lease terms and allows customers to return the device, start a new lease, or purchase the device outright at the end of the lease by paying the remaining balance.

The company also released iOS 26.6 and iPadOS 26.6, which address hundreds of security vulnerabilities and ready the Spotlight search index for the upcoming iOS 27 release scheduled for September.

Separately, Bloomberg reported that Apple plans to launch a new smart home hub between October and early next year, featuring Siri AI and available in tabletop and wall-mounted versions. Updated Apple TV and HomePod mini models are expected to follow later in the fall once Siri AI is widely available.

"Apple Upgrade lets you lease a variety of Apple devices, with iPhone and Apple Watch available in 12-month and 24-month term options and iPad and Mac offered in 24-month and 36-month term options," the company said.

Industry commentator Ed Zitron warned that a potential AI market correction could impact Apple’s pricing strategy, noting recent increases in memory costs and device prices.
