Trump Media launches paid API for real-time Truth Social posts

Summary

Trump Media and Technology Group introduced a subscription-based API that provides instant access to high-impact posts on Truth Social, prompting criticism from Democratic senators.

Trump Media and Technology Group rolled out a paid data service on Aug. 1 that offers subscribers a real-time feed of top posts from Truth Social, including those from President Donald Trump's account, which has 13 million followers. The service, called the "Truth API," is intended to give firms a licensed stream of what the company describes as the platform's most market-moving content.

Interim CEO Kevin McGurn said the API is part of the company's strategy to monetize its assets through a recurring revenue model.

"Markets already move on Truth Social posts," McGurn said in the announcement.

Democratic senators Adam Schiff and Elizabeth Warren wrote to SEC Chair Paul Atkins, urging an investigation into whether the service violates securities laws. They argued the offering could constitute an "abuse of the President's office for personal benefit" and potentially harm investors. The SEC declined to comment on the senators' request.
