Trump says Hamas and Board of Peace reach agreement on Gaza disarmament plan

Resumen

President Trump announced that Hamas has accepted a roadmap, negotiated by his Board of Peace, that calls for the group’s disarmament and a phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.

President Donald Trump said Thursday that Hamas and his internationally-backed "Board of Peace" have reached an agreement on the next phase of a Gaza peace plan, which includes the disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in the enclave. In a post on his social-media platform, Trump described the deal as a step toward lasting peace and security, noting that Israeli forces would pull back from parts of Gaza as disarmament progresses and that an International Stabilization Force and a new Palestinian police force would assume security duties.

Hamas, speaking through mediators, reportedly accepted the final text of the plan, which calls for the decommissioning of weapons and the establishment of a transitional authority, the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, to oversee security and governance. A senior Hamas official confirmed the acceptance to a partner network of CBS News, while Israeli officials have not publicly responded.

The roadmap builds on a 20-point proposal Trump offered last fall, which outlined a cease-fire, host-age releases, increased aid, and a phased Israeli withdrawal contingent on Hamas disarming. Officials said the details of the timetable for disarmament and troop redeployment will be worked out over the coming weeks, with implementation steps expected within the next one to two months. The plan assumes a lack of trust between the parties, making each step conditional on the other side’s compliance.

Israeli Defense Minister Gideon Sa'ar dismissed the agreement as a "trick," insisting that Hamas must first relinquish its weapons before any civilian administration can function. An Israeli source indicated that the recent meeting between Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not cover Gaza, and that Israel would not withdraw troops until disarmament is verified.
