George and Amal Clooney evacuate French home as regional wildfires spread

Résumé

The actors left their Brignodes residence while wildfires burned nearby, sending a note to the mayor expressing concern for the community.

George Clooney and his wife Amal evacuated their home in Brignoles, France, after a wildfire ignited near the town on Wednesday. The blaze consumed roughly 130 hectares of vegetation and was partially contained early Thursday, though firefighting efforts continued and four firefighters were reported injured.

In a note shared with local officials, the couple told Mayor Didier Bremond that they hope the town’s residents remain safe and affirmed their commitment to the community regardless of the fire’s impact. The message concluded with a statement of affection for Brignoles and its residents.

Brignoles, a town of about 18,000 in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, is among several locations in southern Europe experiencing severe wildfires, with evacuations underway across France, Greece, Spain and even parts of the United Kingdom.

The Clooneys purchased the property in 2021, and George Clooney has previously spoken about his family’s life on a French farm.
