Deebo Samuel to Rejoin 49ers on One-Year Contract

Summary

The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to a one-year deal with former wide receiver Deebo Samuel, potentially worth up to $7 million, as they address injuries to other receivers.

San Francisco has reached a one-year agreement with wide receiver Deebo Samuel, a former second-round pick who began his career with the team, according to sources cited by NFL Network. The contract could be worth as much as $7 million.

The move comes as the 49ers evaluate the health of receiver Ricky Pearsall, who is dealing with swelling in the posterior cruciate ligament of his right knee, and veteran Christian Kirk, who missed recent training camp sessions with a strained calf. Team officials said they are exploring all options for Pearsall, including possible surgery.

Samuel, who was traded to the Washington Commanders in the 2025 offseason, recorded 72 receptions for 727 yards and five touchdowns last season, adding 17 rushes for 75 yards and another score. During his first six seasons with the 49ers, he was known for his versatility, often described as a “wide back” for his ability to line up both as a receiver and a running back. In 2021, he amassed 1,770 combined yards and 12 touchdowns, earning Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro honors.

Over his career, Samuel has accumulated 406 receptions for 5,519 yards and 27 receiving touchdowns, along with 219 carries for 1,218 yards and 21 rushing touchdowns.
