Boy George Withdraws from London’s ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ Revival

Resumen

Boy George’s manager announced the singer’s exit from the West End production after the release of a politically charged AI-assisted song.

Boy George will no longer appear in the West End revival of "Jesus Christ Superstar" at the London Palladium, his manager Paul Kemsley said on Thursday. Kemsley wrote that the decision was made "with the utmost respect for the producers, the creative team and the entire company" and offered apologies to fans for any disappointment.

Kemsley added that George has "never been afraid to stand by his personal convictions" and that stepping aside was intended to keep the focus on the production while maintaining mutual respect among all parties.

The withdrawal follows the release earlier this week of an AI-assisted track titled "We Will Dance Again," which references the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack and includes lyrics about war, genocide and criticism of artists supporting Gaza. George posted on Instagram Threads that the song was created using AI and described it as "AI for good," noting he would have struggled to write it without the technology. The track has since been removed from online platforms.
