Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Responds to Marvel's Cancellation of Wonder Man
Marvel reversed its earlier renewal of the Disney+ series Wonder Man, and lead actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II posted a thank-you message to fans after the show was cancelled.
Marvel announced this week that it is cancelling the Disney+ series Wonder Man, reversing a renewal decision made in March. The series, which follows aspiring actor Simon Williams as he navigates a potential breakout role, will not return for a second season.
Lead actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II used Instagram to acknowledge the news, thanking viewers for their support and noting the show's impact on audiences. > "Word just dropped that Wonder Man won’t be coming back for Season 2," he wrote, adding that he appreciated the genuine response from fans.
Abdul-Mateen also referenced the show's performance, noting that the eight-episode first season, released on Jan. 27, logged 618 million minutes viewed in its opening week and ranked eighth among streaming originals for the period Jan. 26-Feb. 1, according to Nielsen data.
The series, created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, had been highlighted for its behind-the-scenes look at the entertainment industry and had earned Abdul-Mateen an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
