State Department expands availability of commemorative 'Patriot' passports featuring former president's image

Summary

The U.S. State Department will issue an additional 250,000 limited-edition passports with a portrait of Donald Trump on the inside cover, available at in-person events nationwide.

The U.S. State Department announced Thursday that it will make 250,000 more of the limited-edition "Patriot" passports available to the public. The passports, which include a portrait of President Donald Trump on the inside cover alongside his signature, were first offered in early July to applicants who visited the Washington, D.C., passport agency.

Applicants can obtain the commemorative passport by attending one of several "250th Anniversary commemorative passport application events" scheduled for August and September at passport agencies across the country, or by applying in person at the Washington, D.C., office. Those who prefer a standard passport without the Trump image may request the larger passport book at the D.C. location.

The State Department said the additional passports are being released after a high volume of inquiries. > "We have received more than 30,000 calls since July 4 from Americans seeking a chance to apply for the Patriot Passport," a spokesperson said.

People who apply online, by mail, at a U.S. embassy or consulate abroad, or at an acceptance facility such as a library or post office will receive a regular passport without the commemorative design.
