UEFA announced that its 55 member associations will boycott all FIFA competitions, including the men’s and women’s World Cups, after rejecting a proposal to sell a stake in FIFA Forward Enterprises to a private-equity group. Concacaf, representing 41 members including the 2026 World Cup hosts United States, Canada and Mexico, also voted against the plan.

The proposal, unveiled by FIFA president Gianni Infantino, sought to raise about $20 billion by selling a share of future World Cup broadcasting and commercial rights, with the investment backed by a firm linked to Joshua Kushner. It would have generated payouts of more than $80 million to each of FIFA’s 211 member associations through 2037.

"UEFA and its national associations will not participate in FIFA competitions," the governing body said in a statement.

"Some things are simply too important to sell. The FIFA World Cup belongs to football. It always will. And so long as Europe has a voice, it will never be for sale," UEFA added.

"Concacaf members expressed deep concerns about the lack of due process surrounding the proposal, the artificially short deadline imposed, and the absence of any review or approval by the relevant FIFA governance bodies," the federation said.

Both bodies criticized the lack of consultation and the tight deadline set by Infantino, calling the plan a failure of leadership and a breach of FIFA’s statutes. The standoff comes ahead of a September women's U-20 World Cup in Poland and could influence the upcoming 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

FIFA has set a November 18 deadline for candidates to declare for the presidential election scheduled for March next year, as the controversy adds pressure to Infantino’s tenure.
