Armenia and Azerbaijan Sign U.S.-Brokered Peace Agreement

Armenia and Azerbaijan have signed a U.S.-mediated peace agreement, aiming to end decades of conflict and establish a strategic transit corridor.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed the agreement at the White House, with U.S. President Donald Trump facilitating the ceremony. The accord commits both nations to cease hostilities, recognize each other's territorial integrity, and open diplomatic relations.

A central element of the agreement is the creation of a transit corridor through Armenian territory, connecting Azerbaijan to its Nakhchivan exclave. This route, named the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity," will be developed under exclusive U.S. rights, aiming to enhance regional trade and energy exports. The corridor will remain under Armenian sovereignty and be managed by U.S. firms, incorporating rail, communication, and energy infrastructure.

The leaders also agreed to request the formal dissolution of the Minsk Group, a mediation body under the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) that has been largely inactive in recent years.

Both leaders praised Trump for helping to end the conflict and said they would nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize.

The agreement is part of Trump's broader second-term agenda to position the U.S. as a global mediator, though other major conflicts persist, such as in Ukraine and Gaza.
