George and Amal Clooney evacuate French home amid large wildfires

Summary

The actors left their Brignoles farm as uncontained wildfires forced thousands to flee in southeastern France, expressing concern for the local community.

George and Amal Clooney have left their farm in Brignoles, southeastern France, after wildfires spread across the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. In a letter to Mayor Didier Brémond, the couple said they were evacuating and hoped the town’s residents remained safe. They added that they consider themselves part of the community and intend to help rebuild after the fires.

The fire, described by the Associated Press as uncontained and four times the size of Paris, prompted the evacuation of about 3,000 people in the region, with an additional 224,000 evacuated in the nearby Gironde area, according to CNN.

The Clooneys, who also own properties in Italy, Kentucky and England, obtained French citizenship in December. Their primary residence in France is a farm where they raise their nine-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander, who speak French and English.

"We hope you and the people of our city are safe," the letter read.

Representatives for the couple did not respond to requests for comment.
