Katie Holmes supports daughter Suri's legal name change dropping Cruise surname
Katie Holmes has expressed support for her 20-year-old daughter Suri's decision to legally change her last name to Noelle, removing the Cruise surname.
Suri Noelle, the 20-year-old daughter of actress Katie Holmes, has legally changed her surname, dropping the last name of her estranged father, Tom Cruise. Public voter registration records in Pennsylvania, where she attends Carnegie Mellon University, list her as Suri Noelle, confirming the change that was first noted in a graduation program at LaGuardia High School in June 2024.
According to a source speaking to Page Six, Holmes was not surprised by the decision, describing Suri as independent and confident in making her own choices. The source said the name change was a gradual decision and that Holmes respected the process, emphasizing that it was Suri's own choice and not something Holmes encouraged.
Holmes, who raised Suri primarily in New York after her 2012 divorce from Cruise, has reportedly focused on allowing her daughter to make personal decisions. A Holmes representative did not respond to a request for comment.
Tom Cruise and Holmes welcomed Suri in April 2006 and married later that year; the couple divorced in 2012. Cruise also has two older children, Bella and Connor, from his marriage to Nicole Kidman.
