Philadelphia fell behind 6-0 against Miami but allowed a comeback, losing 8-6 and seeing their wild-card lead shrink as the Marlins snapped a 12-game losing streak.

Philadelphia entered Miami on a three-game road swing after a 3-6 home series, hoping to rebound against a Marlins club that had lost 12 straight games. The Phillies built a 6-0 advantage early, but the lead unraveled as Miami rallied.

Jesus Luzardo started the fifth inning with a six-run cushion, but the Marlins cut it to three runs later in the frame. Luzardo later hit a batter and surrendered a two-run home run to Heriberto Hernandez on a full-count changeup, acknowledging he "should have thrown something else or been more aggressive" and taking responsibility for the shift in momentum.

The bullpen, already thin with Orion Kerkering and Jose Alvarado unavailable, saw right-hander Seth Johnson replace them. Johnson recorded one out before walking a batter and allowing a game-tying two-run single to Xavier Edwards. In the eighth, Jonathan Bowlan walked before Griffin Conine hit a two-run homer that gave Miami a two-run lead.

Manager Don Mattingly said, "Now is the time we’re going to find out what we’re made of," and added that the team will learn who they are in the coming months. Luzardo expressed confidence in the squad, noting the Phillies had been "the best team in baseball for an extended period" and could turn the slump around.

The loss marked the Phillies' ninth defeat in 12 games since the All-Star break, dropping their margin over .500 from 11 games to five and putting pressure on their wild-card positioning with 53 games remaining. Trea Turner, who contributed to the early lead, described the team's performance as inconsistent, saying, "It feels like we’re not playing complementary baseball. We’ll hit and not pitch well. We’ll pitch and not hit well. It’s frustrating."
