Jaguars kick off 2026 training camp with mixed offensive showing and standout performances
Jacksonville's first practice saw running back Bhayshul Tuten lead the offense, while quarterback Trevor Lawrence and the unit struggled with execution; several young players impressed and injuries were reported.
Jacksonville, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars opened their 2026 training camp on Wednesday at the Miller Electric Center, beginning a 90-man roster's preparation for the upcoming season. Running back Bhayshul Tuten received the majority of first-team offensive reps after teammate Chris Rodriguez Jr. was cleared from foot surgery but held out of team drills, allowing Telen to showcase several big runs and earn praise as the day's most impressive offensive player.
"Tuten produced several big runs and showed the same exciting traits that made him look like an ascending player this spring," the report noted.
Wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter also saw extensive action, participating in both offensive and defensive drills without pads. He logged starting reps on each side of the ball, displaying his athleticism in coverage against Josh Cameron, though his best offensive target resulted in an incompletion.
The Jaguars' offense was described as sloppy by head coach Liam Coen, who cited missed throws by quarterback Trevor Lawrence and multiple drops, including unusual ones by Jakobi Meyers and LeQuint Allen. Lawrence acknowledged he did not have his best day, but said it was an outlier compared to his offseason work.
Four young players drew attention: second-year cornerback Jabbar Muhammad recorded two pass breakups, right guard Wyatt Milum competed for snaps against Patrick Mekari, and rookie tight ends Tanner Koziol and Nate Boerkircher received significant reps with Lawrence. Rookie receiver CJ Williams made a notable sliding catch that was highlighted as the play of the day, prompting Coen to comment on Williams' quick grasp of the offense.
"Williams already has a good feel for the offense and does not need much coaching in terms of his assignments," Coen said.
Second-year player Jack Kiser left practice with an injury; the team will obtain imaging to assess the damage. Veteran safety Eric Murray also made a key interception during drills. The Jaguars plan to run their first padded practice on Monday, with three additional sessions before then as the unit readjusts to full-contact football.
