Former NFL quarterback Tony Romo arrested for alleged OWI in Wisconsin

Résumé

Tony Romo was detained after a traffic stop near Milwaukee and charged with operating while intoxicated; he later faced field-sobriety tests and was released pending a court appearance.

Tony Romo, a former NFL quarterback and current CBS analyst, was arrested on a Milwaukee highway last week after police stopped his vehicle for unsafe passing. Romo told the officer he was returning from a golf tournament and claimed he had consumed no alcohol. He requested an attorney during the encounter.

After being asked to exit the car, Romo was taken to a nearby police station where he performed standard field-sobriety tests, including walking a straight line. The footage released by the department shows Romo stretching before the tests. He was subsequently handcuffed and cited for a first-offense operating while intoxicated (OWI) and for refusing a chemical test. Romo was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 21.

The arrest follows an earlier report that officers found two firearms in Romo's vehicle, though they indicated the weapons did not appear to be loaded. No further charges related to the firearms have been reported.
