Suri Cruise legally drops father's surname, Tom Cruise remains silent

Résumé

Suri Noelle, daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, changed her legal name to drop her father's surname, and the actor has not publicly responded.

Suri Noelle, the 20-year-old daughter of actor Tom Cruise and actress Katie Holmes, filed paperwork in October 2024 to register to vote in Pennsylvania under the name Suri Noelle, according to voter registration records obtained by Page Six. The change removes her father’s surname and mirrors her mother’s middle name, Noelle.

The daughter, a freshman at Carnegie Mellon University, has been estranged from Cruise since childhood, with the last public appearance together occurring in July 2012 shortly after Holmes filed for divorce. A source told Page Six in 2023 that Cruise has not been involved in her life for several years.

When asked about his reaction, an insider close to Cruise told Rob Shuter’s podcast that the actor has not made any public statements or taken action regarding the name change. "Tom’s reaction has been almost nonexistent," the source said, adding that Cruise appears to consider the matter settled.

Another source noted that Cruise tends to compartmentalize personal issues and prioritize his career, suggesting he has accepted the situation. "He simply moves forward when he believes something is beyond his control," the source said.

The name change aligns with the family’s existing dynamics, according to the insider, and was not unexpected by those familiar with the situation.
