Trump approval drops to 34% in latest CNN/SSRS poll, strong disapproval hits record level

A CNN/SSRS poll conducted July 23-27 among 1,225 U.S. adults found President Donald Trump’s overall approval rating at 34%, matching his lowest level recorded after the January 6, 2021, Capitol events. The same survey reported that 66% disapprove of his job performance, with 50% expressing strong disapproval, the highest proportion in his tenure.

Republican support also declined, with 78% of GOP respondents approving of Trump and only 19% describing themselves as enthusiastic about his remaining term, down from 38% earlier in the year. Seventy-three percent of all respondents said Trump has not focused enough on the country’s most important issues, compared with 27% who believe his priorities are correct.

Economic concerns dominated the poll. Only 28% approved of Trump’s handling of the situation in Iran, 25% approved of his approach to inflation, and 21% approved of his response to gas prices. Seventy-one percent said he has not done enough to lower the cost of everyday goods, up from 58% a year earlier. Majorities said his policies have worsened economic conditions (65%) and that his decisions regarding Iran have harmed the United States (67%).

On specific topics, Trump received his highest approval on voting-rights and election-integrity issues (41%), immigration (39%) and overall management of the federal government (35%).

"I'm one day in office and the fake news goes, 'affordability,'" Trump told a rally in Michigan on July 27. "We're fighting to put more money in your pockets and that's what we're doing and we're doing it better than anyone."

Aggregated approval averages from other trackers place Trump’s approval in the high-30s to low-40s percent range, with disapproval consistently above 55%.
