Apple unveils Siri AI, enhanced proofreading and revamped search in iOS 27
Apple's iOS 27 update introduces a rebuilt Siri with AI capabilities, AI-driven spelling and grammar checks, and a comprehensive overhaul of Spotlight, Photos and Mail search.
Apple announced that iOS 27, scheduled for release this fall, will feature a newly rebuilt Siri powered by artificial intelligence. The company said it "tore [Siri] to the ground" and "rebuilt it from the ground up," allowing users to ask natural-language questions and receive detailed answers, as well as to trigger a broader range of actions across devices. A dedicated Siri app will store conversation history.
The update also expands the iPhone's proofreading tools. Spellcheck will now run on Apple Intelligence and a new grammar-checking feature will underline suggestions in blue, while traditional misspellings remain marked in red. Users can disable the feature in Settings if desired.
Spotlight search receives a major redesign, with deeper integration of Siri and a continuously updated index of user content. Apple said the same search architecture has been applied to the Photos and Mail apps, aiming to deliver more relevant results throughout the day.
"We have rebuilt Siri from the ground up and integrated it fully with Spotlight to provide more useful, context-aware results," an Apple spokesperson said.
The changes are expected to become frequently used tools for iPhone owners once iOS 27 becomes generally available.
