BTS Declines to Submit Music for 2024 Grammy Awards

Resumen

The South Korean group said it will not enter its songs for the 69th Grammy Awards, citing a desire for music to be judged without regional categories.

South Korean pop group BTS announced Wednesday that it will not submit any recordings for consideration at the 69th Grammy Awards, scheduled for February. In a statement posted to the Instagram Stories of all seven members, the group said, "We have decided not to submit our music to the Grammys this year. We hope music can be heard and loved as music itself, rather than being divided by region or language," and thanked its fan base ARMY and supporters worldwide.

The decision arrives after the Recording Academy added a new Best Asian Pop Music Performance category in June, one of five categories introduced for the upcoming ceremony. Critics have described the addition as potentially segregating Asian artists from mainstream awards.

BTS, whose fifth studio album "ARIRANG" topped the Billboard 200 with 641,000 units and whose single "SWIM" entered the Hot 100 at number one, has received three consecutive nominations for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance from 2021 to 2023 but has not yet won a Grammy.
