BTS Announces It Will Not Enter 2027 Grammy Consideration
The South Korean boy band said via Instagram it will not submit entries for the 2027 Grammy Awards, despite the introduction of a new Asian pop category.
South Korean group BTS said on Wednesday that it will not submit any recordings for the 2027 Grammy Awards. The announcement was posted in an Instagram story and included a translation that read, "We have decided not to submit to the Grammys this year. I hope that music can be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language. Thank you to ARMY and everyone who is always with us."
The decision follows the Recording Academy's recent addition of an Asian pop music performance category, which requires entries to feature meaningful use of an Asian language. BTS, which released its first album in years, Arirang, in March and saw the record debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, was expected to be a strong contender for the new award.
The Recording Academy has not responded to requests for comment.
