Former NFL quarterback Tony Romo arrested for operating while intoxicated in Wisconsin

Resumen

Body-camera footage released by Fox News shows former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo questioning police and refusing a breath test after being stopped for alleged intoxicated driving on July 23.

Body-camera video obtained by Fox News shows former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo being stopped by police on an interstate in Wisconsin on July 23. Romo told the officer he was coming from a golf course and claimed he had consumed "zero" drinks before requesting an attorney. When asked to exit his vehicle, he replied, "Because I'm coming from a golf course, you think I'm drunk?"

The arresting officer observed red, glassy eyes and detected the smell of alcohol, leading to Romo's detention and transport to a nearby station for field-sobriety tests. After completing the tests, Romo declined a breath test, stating he had been advised by lawyers not to take one. He was cited for first-offense operating while intoxicated and for refusing a chemical test. Romo was released and is scheduled to appear in court on September 21.

Romo, who retired from professional football in 2017 and works as a color commentator for CBS, was stopped after participating in the Wisconsin Amateur Golf Championship. He withdrew from a subsequent tournament, the M&P Group Texas State Open, over the weekend. No comment has been made by Romo regarding the incident.

"I've heard from all the lawyers don't ever do that," Romo said, according to the footage.

Fox News reporter Ryan Morik contributed to the report.
