Suri Cruise changes surname to Noelle while attending Carnegie Mellon
The 20-year-old daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes legally dropped the Cruise surname, registering to vote as Suri Noelle, according to public records.
Suri Cruise, the 20-year-old daughter of actors Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, has legally changed her last name to Noelle, a name derived from her mother’s middle name, according to voter registration records in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The records show the college student is enrolled at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and is now listed on the voter roll as Suri Noelle.
Monica Mazzei, chair of a family-law practice, told the outlet that an adult can change her name without parental consent, noting that Katie Holmes had sole legal custody of Suri until she turned 18, which would have allowed her to approve any name change before that age.
Holmes previously expressed pride in her daughter’s transition to college life, saying she was “proud of my daughter” and reflecting on her own experiences at that age.
Representatives for Cruise and Holmes did not respond to requests for comment.
