Red Sox
Boston added newly acquired infielder Curtis Mead to the injured list on Tuesday, a day after he was struck on the base of his left hand and wrist by a 95 mph fastball from Oakland starter Jack Perkins. Mead remained in the game for one inning before exiting before the bottom of the fifth. Initial X-rays at Sutter Health Park were negative, leading interim manager Chad Tracy to say the team may have "dodged a bullet." Further evaluation on Tuesday resulted in the decision to place Mead, who was obtained from the Nationals on Saturday in exchange for Connelly Early, on the injured list. The Red Sox are expected to promote infielder Nick Sogard from Triple-A Worcester, though his arrival may be delayed until Wednesday because the team is on the West Coast.
