Funeral ceremonies for Sen. Lindsey Graham to include Netanyahu, Zelenskyy and Trump
Two days of memorial events for the late South Carolina senator will begin Tuesday in Washington, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President Donald Trump among the attendees.
Funeral services for the late Sen. Lindsey Graham will start Tuesday in Washington, drawing a roster that includes Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President Donald Trump. Graham, a longtime foreign-policy hawk who had been working on a Russia sanctions bill, died at 71 after returning from a meeting with Zelenskyy in Kyiv.
The ceremonies will begin on Capitol Hill, where Graham served as a House member and later as a senator. His casket will move from the Capitol Rotunda to the Washington National Cathedral for an afternoon service, during which Trump is scheduled to speak. The following day, services will be held in South Carolina, featuring an F-16 flyover at the state house and a public service at First Baptist Church, followed by a private burial in Pickens County.
While the memorials proceed, both Netanyahu and Zelenskyy are slated to hold separate meetings with Trump at the White House. The gatherings come after a Wall Street Journal release of documentary footage showing Graham expressing strong support for Israel and the U.S. strike on Iran earlier this year.
"Trump and Bibi are like Roosevelt and Churchill. They’re the right two guys to confront this evil," Graham was quoted as saying in the released video.
The footage also captured Graham predicting a rapid collapse of Iranian control following the strikes, a forecast that has not materialized. Zelenskyy is expected to seek a more constructive dialogue with Trump than in a previous contentious Oval Office encounter.
