Infantino condemns critics for spreading false rumors about World Cup

Resumen

FIFA president Gianni Infantino issued a lengthy statement after the World Cup final, accusing critics of spreading hate and false rumors while praising the tournament’s success.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino released a 900-word statement on Instagram and the FIFA website a week after the World Cup final, accusing critics of “spreading hate and false rumors” about the event. He said the tournament delivered “the best show in the world” and brought “joy and togetherness” to fans worldwide.

"Sorry that you were so consumed by hate and criticism that you missed it all," Infantino wrote, addressing “those behind their pens and papers, behind their screens spreading hate and false rumors."

Infantino highlighted that stadiums were filled with supporters from many countries and claimed the organization was working to ensure safety while critics “planted seeds of hate.” He referenced several controversies that arose during the tournament, including the denial of U.S. visas to some fans, the handling of a red-card incident involving U.S. forward Folarin Balogun, and concerns over ticket prices and commercial breaks.

"Iran entered the United States without incident or conflict," he added, noting that the Iranian team played matches in the U.S. after moving its training camp to Tijuana, Mexico.

"You mentioned the few people denied visas and overlooked the millions who were approved, from all parts of the world," Infantino wrote, pointing to visa approvals for countries facing health crises.

He urged detractors to reflect, meditate, pray, or watch a match to see “the faces, the eyes, the emotions” of fans, and concluded the statement with “Much love to all.”
