Wisconsin Governor says state prepared to aid Northeast region after tornado and storms

Summary

Governor Tony Evers confirmed the state is ready to assist communities in Northeast Wisconsin following a tornado and severe storms that caused road closures and power outages.

Governor Tony Evers said he has been briefed on the recent storms that moved through Northeast Wisconsin and confirmed that state resources are prepared to support local response efforts. A tornado touched down around noon in the Appleton-Menasha area, prompting tornado warnings for that region and areas to the south.

Outagamie County officials urged residents to stay home if possible because multiple roadways are blocked and will remain closed for an extended period. They asked the public to refrain from reporting minor, non-emergency issues such as downed trees, allowing first responders to focus on critical situations.

First responders are assessing damage and coordinating assistance for displaced residents. Authorities warned people to stay away from downed power lines and to check on neighbors when safe. Emergency cooling shelters in Menasha, including Christ the Rock Church, the Menasha Senior Center and the Menasha Public Library, are offering water and basic aid.

The Appleton Police Department and other Fox Valley municipalities are monitoring the situation and advising residents to follow updates on social media. Neenah police added that residents should avoid affected areas, treat all utility lines as energized, and limit non-essential travel to enable emergency and utility crews to work.

Officials reminded the public to call 911 for emergencies and to use non-emergency channels for other reports. The latest alerts can be accessed through the FOX 11 Weather App. A heat advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m., with temperatures expected near 85 °F, while tomorrow’s forecast calls for sunny, less humid conditions with highs around 80 °F.
