Three dead and four injured in Seattle Center food festival shooting
A mass shooting at the Bite of Seattle festival in Seattle Center left three people dead and four injured, including a toddler, as police detained one suspect and continue searching for another.
Police said a mass shooting at the Bite of Seattle food festival in Seattle Center resulted in three fatalities and four injuries, among them a two-year-old child. The incident was reported just after 6 p.m. on Sunday, prompting a large police and emergency response and the evacuation of the venue.
Seattle Police Department (SPD) indicated that two shooters may have been firing at each other, with festival attendees not appearing to be the target. One suspect, described only as a "young person," was taken into custody shortly after the shooting, while officers continue to search for a second individual believed to have fled the scene.
Witnesses described hearing multiple gunshots near the festival fountain and described a chaotic evacuation as families and children fled the area. One attendee helped lift children over a fence to safety.
Harborview Medical Center treated the victims. Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, and three others were transported to the hospital in stable condition, including the toddler. A fourth person with minor injuries declined transport. All injured patients suffered gunshot wounds to various parts of the body.
Washington Governor Bob Ferguson briefed the public, noting that a state patrol SWAT team was en route to assist and urging residents to avoid the area. Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson expressed condolences, thanked first responders, and emphasized support for the affected families.
Two firearms were recovered at the scene. Police have not disclosed the weapons' models or any possible gang affiliation. The King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office said the arrested suspect is expected to appear in court on Monday.
