NBA forward Kyle Kuzma criticizes NYC mayor's comments on Netanyahu
Milwaukee Bucks forward Kyle Kuzma mocked New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s video calling for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s arrest, describing the mayor’s remarks as performative.
Milwaukee Bucks forward Kyle Kuzma responded to a video posted by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani that called for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu under an International Criminal Court warrant. Kuzma wrote on X that the mayor was "playing president" and suggested the remarks were more about appearance than governance.
Mamdani’s video, released ahead of the United Nations General Assembly, urged authorities to detain Netanyahu if he visited New York City and described him as responsible for crimes against the Palestinian people. The mayor later clarified that the city lacks legal authority to arrest a visiting foreign leader.
Kuzma’s comments contrasted with support the video received from other NBA players, including Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving and San Antonio Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama, who liked Mamdani’s post. Critics have called for the mayor to focus on local issues such as public safety and housing rather than international matters.
