American tourist missing on Grenada island, authorities continue search

Summary

A 44-year-old North Carolina physical therapist who vanished on Grenada’s Grand Anse Beach is the subject of an ongoing police-led search, with officials urging anyone with information to come forward.

Royal Grenada Police are searching for Elizabeth "Liz" Waddell, a 44-year-old physical therapist from Raleigh, North Carolina, who was last seen on Wednesday near Grand Anse Beach in St. George's. According to police, Waddell left an Airbnb to swim and was not seen again; her towel was later found on a pier.

A friend who was staying with Waddell said she was wearing a swimsuit and had been near the pool that overlooks the bay when the friend returned from an online course and could not locate her. The friend filed a missing-person report after several hours without contact.

Waddell’s husband, Cailen Waddell, posted on social media that he was traveling to Grenada to assist with the search and asked the public to share any relevant information. He described his wife as a kind-hearted person who easily made friends.

Police have asked fishermen, boat operators and local residents along the southern coast to report any sightings. The search effort includes police officers, divers and students from St. George's University.

The U.S. State Department confirmed it is aware of the case and can help the family with filing reports and understanding local procedures, though it declined to provide further details.

Authorities provided contact numbers for the South Saint George Police Station, the Criminal Investigation Department and the emergency line for anyone with information.
