Actress Courtney Stodden praised Jason Alexander's $15,000 contribution to the anti-child-marriage nonprofit Unchained At Last, following his public apology for a 2012 comedy sketch she described as inappropriate.

Courtney Stodden posted on Instagram that she appreciated Jason Alexander’s $15,000 donation to Unchained At Last, a nonprofit that works to end forced and child marriage in the United States. She said accountability involves “taking meaningful steps that can help create change” and expressed hope that the actor’s apology and contribution set a standard for others.

"Looking back at the comedy sketch in which Ms. Stodden and I participated in 2012, I completely agree that it was inappropriate and I truly regret it. But more importantly, I am deeply sorry for any harm or distress it has caused Ms. Stodden," Alexander said in a statement to Page Six.

Stodden, who was 17 when the sketch was filmed, told Variety that she was surprised by Alexander’s willingness to apologize and encouraged him to back California Assembly Bill 1267, which would ban child marriage. She added that the incident, in which she wore a bikini and was touched on set, felt “really damaging” and that speaking out now is intended to protect vulnerable children.

A representative for Alexander did not respond to a request for comment. The donation was reported by TMZ.
