Vehicle Drives Into Crowd at Berlin Pride Event, One Dead and Dozens Injured

Résumé

A car entered Berlin's Tiergarten park during the Christopher Street Day celebration, killing one person and injuring at least 14, as police launch a search for the driver.

A white passenger car entered Berlin's Tiergarten park shortly before 10 p.m. on Saturday, striking pedestrians attending the Christopher Street Day (CSD) pride festival. Police reported that at least 14 people were injured, some with life-threatening wounds, and one person was killed. The vehicle later crashed into a tree and was found empty, prompting investigators to begin a hunt for the driver or drivers involved.

"The car drove through the park and hit several people walking," said Florian Nath, a spokesperson for Berlin police, adding that the motive remains under investigation. Police said the incident occurred near the Brandenburg Gate, where a festival was taking place, but the car did not hit the main parade route, instead striking attendees who were moving away from it. Emergency crews responded, and authorities urged the public to avoid the area. The remainder of the CSD event was cancelled. The attack follows a series of vehicle-based assaults in Germany, including a December 2024 incident in Magdeburg that caused multiple fatalities and hundreds of injuries.
